Hotel turned housing

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the City of Santa Fe partnered with Community Solutions, a national organization to end homelessness, to quickly purchase and convert a local hotel into permanent housing for over 120 people. Funded by the federal CARES Act, the project provided a fast, cost-effective way to address homelessness and the city's housing shortage. Because the property was already an extended stay hotel, it needed minimal renovation. Today, Santa Fe Suites serves as a national model for hotel-to-housing conversions.

impact on the community

  • Two thirds of the units house people who were formerly homeless or precariously housed
  • The rest offer affordable, below market rent for working individuals, seniors, and voucher holders.
  • Veterans receive priority, and tenant needs help shape on-site services,
  • Some rooms are reserved for low-income cancer patients receiving treatment at nearby CHRISTUS St. Vincent Cancer Center.
